Voor veel mensen met dementie is eten en drinken moeilijk. Goede zorg bij eten en drinken is essentieel om mensen met dementie zo gezond mogelijk te houden en hun kwaliteit van leven hoog te houden. Verzorgenden, verpleegkundigen en voedingsassistenten krijgen met 'Eten en drinken bij dementie' praktische handvatten om hun cliënten te kunnen ondersteunen. Ze leren met dit boek hoe ze kunnen helpen bij het eten en drinken en hoe ze het thema eten en drinken kunnen gebruiken om de kwaliteit van leven van mensen met dementie te verbeteren. Ze beschrijft haar eigen ervaringen met haar demente moeder die haar de wondere wereld van dementie heeft leren kennen. Wilma Scheres - GZ-psycholoog en communicatiedeskundige met en voor mensen met een communicatieve beperking - is werkzaam voor Milo en programma manager Symphonyzorgacademie. Daarnaast is zij docent Train de trainer Totale communicatie en auteur van het boek Totale Communicatie. Zij begeleidt mensen met een verstandelijke beperking op het gebied van lichaamsbeleving, identiteit en seksualiteit en is coach voor gedragskundigen in de zorg voor mensen met een verstandelijke beperking.

Er is nog weinig kennis over ouderenmishandeling. Toch komt het vaak voor. Uit onderzoek blijkt dat een op de twintig ouderen een vorm van ouderenmishandeling ondergaan heeft. Onder ouderenmishandeling wordt elke mishandeling van een oudere (vanaf 65 jaar) verstaan, die door een bekende begaan wordt. Dat kan een familielid zijn, vaak een kind een buurman of buurvrouw, een 'vriend(in)' of kennis en soms ook een hulpverlener. Ouderenmishandeling kan de vorm hebben van fysieke mishandeling, maar ook financiële uitbuiting en psychische mishandeling komen al dan niet in combinatie met elkaar voor. Het betreft vaak ouderen die geen of een klein sociaal netwerk hebben en afhankelijk zijn van zorg. In het eerste deel van het boek worden vijftien schrijnende casussen van ouderenmishandeling beschreven, alsmede de aanpak en de resultaten. In het tweede deel worden mogelijke interventies beschreven en een stappenplan gepresenteerd. Het boek geeft inzicht in de verschillende aspecten van de problematiek en biedt handvatten voor hulpverleners bij het aanpakken van ouderenmishandeling.
